With a special micro-climate due to its location at the closest approach of the Alps to the sea, Menton boasts over 316 days of sunshine a year – more sunny days than any other place in France! Even in the depths of winter, people can be seen walking the historic streets in what’s normally considered Springtime clothes.  Smaller than Nice and Monte Carlo but larger than Eze or Villefranche, Menton is a true city that still retains an authentic village feel.

Historically, Menton was ruled by the Grimaldi family of Monaco for about 500 years, starting in the mid-1300s. It remained a simple fishing village until the mid 1800s when an English doctor proclaimed the wonderful climate of Menton to be a cure for numerous illnesses. From that point, it attracted a multitude of English and Russian aristocrats who erected extravagant mansions, palaces, and luxury hotels, many of which are still standing today.
